It is always a delight to receive emails from the young women and men who have been Tobin & Company Intern Analysts through the years. One such email arrived in my mailbox three weeks ago. The message was from a former analyst intern who is now a consultant at one of the “Big Four” consulting firms. He has persevered and is on the road to a very successful career.
Here’s what he wrote in his email to me:
“You helped me both personally and professionally navigate through one of the toughest periods in my life. You helped make things seem a little less harsh and I’ll forever be grateful for that. And the experience I gained at TOBIN, especially through the PEG calls and responsibilities like that, truly helped pave the way for me to achieve my promotion. I’m constantly advising senior level clients on our engagements and have the confidence to do so because of my experience at TOBIN.”
When notes like these arrive, they have a huge impact on me. Every time a former “Tobinite” offers heartfelt gratitude like this, I am humbled to have made a difference in their life. To have them acknowledge their success, and ours, I am forever grateful.
Our firm has hosted interns for fifteen years and each year we have tried to not only teach them the investment banking business, but also to help them find their personal road to success. It’s not easy being a TOBIN analyst intern. We have high expectations for the folks whom we accept into our internship program. But we do our best to take them under our wing and teach them basic office skills, work practices and the mechanics of investment banking. We help to prepare them for the challenges, and rewards, they will find in the real world.
These kinds of acknowledgements, though rare, are highlights in my life. I sincerely hope you have similar moments in your life.
Warm regards,
Justine Tobin
